A 60-year-old man is critically ill after being struck by a trolley during an alleged altercation at a Marks and Spencer store.
The man suffered a broken hip and wrist following the incident at The Glades shopping centre in Bromley, south east London, on 22 December, police said.
Officers were told on Boxing Day that he had suffered further health complications and he remains in a critical condition in hospital.
A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and bailed to return to a south London police station on 29 January.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to a store in The Glades shopping centre in Bromley, following reports of a man injured during an altercation.
"It is understood that the man, aged 60, was struck with a trolley after being pushed by a woman. He fell to the ground and sustained injuries including a broken hip and wrist, and was taken to a Kent hospital for treatment.
"On Wednesday, 26 December, officers were informed that the man had suffered further health complications and that he was now in a critical condition.
"Officers subsequently arrested a 30-year-old woman on 26 December, on suspicion of GBH. She was taken into custody at a south London police station and later bailed to return on 29 January, pending further investigation.
"Inquiries continue led by officers from Bromley borough police."
An M&S spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident took place at our Bromley store on Saturday, 22 December.
"We are assisting the police with their investigation and therefore it would not be appropriate for us to comment any further."
A spokeswoman for The Glades shopping centre said the company would provide police with "every assistance" during their investigations.
