A man has died as Storm Desmond tore through Britain, bringing strong winds and heavy rain which caused Cumbria to declare a major incident.
The 90-year-old man, who died near Finchley Central station, north London, is believed to have been blown into the side of a moving bus by a gust of wind, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
Police in Cumbria, one of the areas worst affected by high winds and rain, have officially declared the weather a "major incident" and residents in some parts have been evacuated as the Met Office issued severe "red" flood alerts.
The Met Office has issued red warnings - its highest for severe weather - for parts of Scotland and north west England and transport networks are facing major disruption with a number of road closures.
