Police are investigating an attack on a Barnardo's charity shop after crowds had gathered in Brixton to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher, who died at the age of 87 after a stroke.
A couple of hundred people gathered in Windrush Square in south London late on Monday afternoon and police say they had to deal with around people causing low level disorder throughout the evening.
The charity shop's windows were smashed during the disorder
The Barnardo's shop had its windows smashed and has been forced to close for safety reasons until repairs are completed.
Brixton was the scene of serious rioting in 1981, just two years into Mrs Thatcher's first administration.
In a statement, the children's charity said: "The Barnardo’s store in Brixton was damaged during the evening of 8 April 2013 and has been forced to close, whilst the premises is made safe.
"We apologise to all our customers for the temporary closure and will ensure the store is re-opened as soon as possible.
"The incident has been referred to the Police and we are assisting them with their inquiries."
