Mariah Carey more than lived up to her diva reputation at the World Music Awards in Monaco on Tuesday night, delaying the ceremony by arriving four hours later than planned.
The star was planning on promoting her bizarrely-titled latest release ‘Me. I Am Mariah. The Elusive Chanteuse’ with an album launch before the awards kicked off, though it was pushed back by four hours, leaving A-listers like Miley Cyrus and Tinie Tempah waiting around for her arrival.
Mariah Carey performs at the World Music Awards... after she finally arrived
A spokesman for the awards told The Mirror: "We don't know why Mariah is late, she's just being Mariah."
A senior producer added: “Mariah was meant to be at the Sporting Club at 5.30pm but her album launch was put back to 9.30pm.
“The whole event has been delayed. It’s not great.”
As if that wasn’t diva behaviour enough, Mariah was insistent that her own lighting man accompany her to the event to ensure that she was perfectly lit.
A source explained to The Mirror: “She likes to have her lighting man wherever she goes to make sure the lighting is right. That’s really important to her.”
James Arthur takes to the stage
But Mariah wasn’t the only diva to arrive at the World Music Awards, as ‘X Factor’ winner James Arthur put in an appearance, debuting a new look with a darker hair colour.
He also performed at the ceremony, writing on his Twitter page afterwards that he felt honoured to have shared the stage with ‘The Elusive Chanteuse’ herself, Mariah Carey:
Meanwhile, Mimi’s late arrival was just one of many problems to disrupt the awards ceremony, with host Sharon Stone having to pull out at the last minute, forcing organisers to draft in Pamela Anderson at the eleventh hour.
