The footballers in this Kenyan league have to do more than just score goals to get promoted.
Youths playing in the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) gain points for promotion by volunteering and getting involved in their communities - everything from litter picking to attending HIV and AIDS awareness classes.
Mathare, situated just outside of Nairobi, is a group of some of the largest and poorest slums in Africa. More than 900,000 people live in mud huts with no electricity, sanitation or clean water.
MYSA, a Laureus-supported charity which has been twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, hopes to empower the 25,364 young people who play in the league to help them escape poverty.
