Michelle Keegan Insists It’s ‘Nobody’s Business’ If She’s Planning To Start A Family: ‘You Shouldn’t Ask Questions Like That’

The actress married former TOWIE star Mark Wright in 2015.

Michelle Keegan has spoken of her frustration at constantly being asked if she is going to have a baby.

The former Coronation Street star has insisted it’s no-one’s business if she’s planning on becoming a parent with husband Mark Wright.

The actress also called out the everyday sexism of the question, as Mark doesn’t face the same line of questioning.

The 32-year-old labelled the interest in whether or not she will become a mother as “everybody’s obsession”.

She told The Sun: “It’s horrible. It’s like, ‘You’re 32. Are you not planning to have a baby yet?’

“People don’t know if we’re trying. They don’t know the background of what’s happening. It’s no-one else’s business.

“In this day and age you shouldn’t ask questions like that.”

She added: “I’m asked purely because I’m a woman. But I’m immune to it now – it’s like a reaction and as soon as I hear it I brush it off, as it’s no-one else’s business.”

Michelle, who is back on screens in new Sky One comedy Brassic, said that people were surprised she was able to live apart from her husband for so long while she was in South Africa filming BBC drama Our Girl and he worked in Los Angeles.

She said: “Everyone was like, ‘Oh my god, how did you manage?’ But again, because we’re so used to working separately, it was fine and we’ve got FaceTime – you can be so close to your loved ones without even being there now.”

The Our Girl star has previously said that the rumours her marriage was in trouble were rooted in sexism, as she feels they come from her being a married woman whose career is still of high importance to her.

Speaking in 2017, she said: “I don’t understand why that’s a negative. It should be celebrated.

“I’d say there is a slight degree of sexism to it. I always think it’s good we’ve got our own careers.

“He’s put all his effort into that and I’m putting all my effort into this.”
