The Tomb Raider franchise has historically been associated with Sony's PlayStation console however Microsoft has confirmed that not only will the next Tomb Raider be an Xbox One timed exclusive but that the company could also use it as a means of taking on Uncharted 4.
This isn't as shocking a decision as it sounds however. Sony's Uncharted series has become a blockbuster hit for the PlayStation 3 while Microsoft's Xbox has struggled to find a third-person action adventure title to call its own.
By taking full exclusivity of the new Tomb Raider reboot the Xbox One would then have a game that can legitimately take on PlayStation's impressive third-party roster that includes The Order 1886, Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us: Remastered.
This is -- for now -- just speculation and the dreams of Xbox's Phil Spencer, that said with Microsoft now on board as the publisher it wouldn't be too far a stretch to imagine the third Tomb Raider game being an Xbox and PC-only title.
