Stranger Things actor Millie Bobby Brown has revealed she almost turned her back on acting entirely, after an audition for Game Of Thrones proved unsuccessful.
Millie rose to fame when she was still in her early teens, playing the mysterious Eleven in the hit Netflix drama, but admitted during a recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s US talk show that by that point, she’d already received plenty of rejection.
“I was just very disheartened by the rejection,” the 16-year-old recalled. “This industry is full of rejection 24/7. You do get a lot of ‘no’s before a ‘yes’.
“I was auditioning for commercials, for anything really.
“I then auditioned for Game Of Thrones and I got a no for that, and that’s when I was like, ‘This is really difficult’. I guess I really wanted that role.”
Millie didn’t specify which role she went for in Game Of Thrones, but as it turns out, her big break wasn’t far off at all.
She explained: “My last go at this was this Netflix show called Montauk. I auditioned and two months later, they got back to us and were like, ‘Hey, we’d love to Skype with you’.”
Montauk – for those who haven’t worked it out – was the working title for Stranger Things, before they chose to relocate the show’s action to the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.
“The rest is history, of course,” Millie added. “Montauk was definitely the one that gave me hope of doing it all again.”
As well as playing Eleven, Millie is currently starring in the Netflix original film Enola Holmes, on which she also serves as an executive producer.
