Mirror Mirror: Lissie

Recently labelled the Stevie Nicks of a new generation, singer/songwriter Lissie talks "real" jobs, cavewomen and dropping out of college ahead of her new album release this October...

When I look in the mirror I see... well, lately, as I've been getting older I look so much like my dad. My sister says we have similar facial expressions and we both speak with our hands. So, I guess I see him. I really admire my dad so I don't think it's a bad thing.

If I were stranded on a desert island with one dress it would be... a comfy cotton one that would dry quickly if it got wet. I was thinking white or cream, but that would show the dirt. Black would be too hot, so probably something in a pale blue!

When I was at school I wanted to be... a singer. I knew I wanted to be a singer from a young age. People would always say, "You've got to get a real job." But my parents always believed I'd make it. When I was growing up I had loads of different jobs. I worked in an ice cream parlour and a coffee shop. I was a personal assistant and ran errands all day.

My biggest style triumph was... a pair of brown flat boots I got from Office about four years ago. I love finding nice good quality things I'll have forever - and that will always fit!

If I could be any character from film or literature I'd be...Ayal from the book The Clan Of The Cave Bear. It sounds kind of dumb but it's a book set in prehistoric times about this woman who breaks away from her tribe full of cavemen. She has to go off by herself and discover how to make things like fire and tools. She has to learn what plants are edible and which ones she can use for medicine. She's like a self-sufficient nature goddess!

Lissie's new single Further Away (Romance Police) is out now. Her album Back To Forever is set for release in October 2013. Make sure you catch her live at V Festival and Bestival this summer!
