If you think that contests such as Miss USA reward looks and not brains, well, you're unlikely to change your view after watching this clip.
For it shows Marissa Powell - aka the representative of the state of Utah in this year's Miss USA pageant - answering the following question about the gender pay gap:
"A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?"
What does it say, indeed? Well, according to Ms Powell, it says... something about creating education better. And jobs. Or something. Click play on the video above to enjoy (and by 'enjoy' we do of course mean 'cringe at') her full answer.
Still, as our American cousins at Huffington Post Comedy point out, there are at least 10 things worse than Miss Utah's answer - including having to stand next to Donald Trump if you win Miss USA. So fear not, Marissa: it could have been a lot worse.
