The most outstanding highlight of the Scottish Music scene this year was without doubt the MOBO Awards, and for the second time they were held right here in my hometown, Glasgow.
The line-up was pretty spectacular; Jessie J, Boyz II Men, Labrinth & Ms Dynamite just to name a few.
The 2011 MOBO Awards were hosted by Jason Derulo and Alesha Dixon and saw the best of British and international talent coming together in celebration and recognition of the achievements in urban music. Taking place at the SECC (Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre) in Glasgow for the second time proved to be a huge success with the whole city welcoming MOBO back and turning out in force to show their support.
The evening featured performances from Jessie J who stole the show, winning four out of her five award nominations, Best UK Act, Best Album, Best Newcomer and Best Song. The 23-year-old who has recently been recovering from a broken ankle was overwhelmed at her success. She said, "I was thrilled to be able to perform in front of so many people who have been an inspiration to me. And to win was just unbelievable!" This was Jessie's first performance since she has had her cast removed and she was on top form, show-stopping.
Kanya King MBE, CEO and founder of the MOBO Awards was delighted to be in Glasgow again. The first time the MOBO's were ever located outside London, Kanya brought them to Glasgow.
She said "We had such a fantastic experience when we hosted the MOBO Awards here in 2009, that it felt very natural for us to want to return and build on our great relationship with the city. And we have been given such a warm welcome, so far even the rain is holding off! The music scene here in Glasgow is very vibrant, no doubt because of the passionate audiences here. We are looking forward to returning in 2013 and are excited about staging the event at the new Scottish National Arena. "
Veteran act Boyz II Men closed the show, and the star-studded party continued in the city centre at Corinthian.
