Moby has taken his passion for veganism to the next level by getting a huge ‘vegan for life’ tattoo. On his neck.
The musician, 53, took to Instagram to show his 383,000 followers the new ink, which is written in large, bold letters on the side of his neck.
It’s not clear whether the tat is temporary or permanent but the singer thanks celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D – who has tattooed the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Eminem, John Mayer and Nicki Minaj – in his post.
The musician has been incredibly vocal about veganism over the years, using his Instagram account as a platform to educate other people about animal rights and climate change.
“I’ve been a vegan for almost 32 years, so getting this tattoo seemed like a pretty safe bet,” he wrote in the caption of his latest post. “Also, working for animal rights and animal liberation is my life’s work. And to state the obvious, it’s a double entendre.”
The reaction on Twitter to Moby’s new tattoo is already pretty divided.
Moby, whose big hits including Porcelain and We Are All Made Of Stars, and whose 1999 album, Play, sold more than 12 million copies, found himself at the centre of a media storm earlier this year when he wrote in his memoir Then It Fell Apart that he had met and dated Natalie Portman when she was 20.
Portman, 37, said she remembered it very differently, telling Harper’s Bazaar: “I was surprised to hear that he characterised the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school.
“He said I was 20; I definitely wasn’t. I was a teenager. I had just turned 18.”
Moby later issued an apology to the actor, saying he recognised “it was truly inconsiderate” to not let her know about her inclusion in the book beforehand, and “to not fully respect her reaction”.
He wrote on Instagram: “I have a lot of admiration for Natalie, for her intelligence, creativity, and animal rights activism, and I hate that I might have caused her and her family distress.”
