A woman convicted of murdering her newborn son is to face an extradition hearing over the death of another infant.

Ineta Dzinguviene, 26, from Lithuania, killed her son Paulius Dzingus hours after he was born on April 12 2010.

She will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today for an extradition hearing which relates to the death of a baby girl in her homeland.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "Following the execution of a European arrest warrant in connection with an alleged incident in Lithuania, Ineta Dzinguviene will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today for an initial appearance.

"As extradition proceedings are now ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

The body of Paulius was found in a holdall in a communal hallway in a block of flats in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

Dzinguviene was found guilty of murdering the boy by holding a piece of clingfilm over his face and suffocating him.

Passing sentence at the High Court in Glasgow last June, Judge John Beckett QC told Dzinguviene she would serve at least 15 years for the "wicked" murder of a "defenceless and extremely vulnerable" child.

Lithuanian authorities sent the European arrest warrant to Scotland in connection with the death of a baby girl following Dzinguviene's conviction.
