Outspoken MP Nadine Dorries has defended herself against racism accusations after a bizarre claim that a mixed-race MP looked like Chris Eubank.
Twitter users responded with bafflement after the politician claimed that Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna looked more like the eccentric former boxer than Barack Obama, to whom he has previously been compared.
Dorries, the MP for Mid-Bedfordshire, wrote: "Apparently I'm racist because I think Chuck Umunna looks like Chris Eubank? What would I be if I said he looked like someone who was white??"
It came as Umunna faced embarrassing claims that his own staff had altered his Wikipedia page to include comparisons with Obama.
The Evening Standard reported that the Labour man said he could not be sure that his office had not added the comparisons, which he has publicly rejected.
Dorries is currently suspended from the Conservative Party after appearing on ITV show I'm A Celebrity..Get Me Out Of Here.
She first made the comparison on Monday, before withdrawing from twitter for the afternoon because of "left wing rants and abuse" after the death of Margaret Thatcher.
On Tuesday, responding to criticism online, she wrote: "Apparently, if you forget the name of someone who is black you are racist. I forget the name of loads of white people what does that make me?"
Dorries claimed the two had an "arrogant smirk" in common. It's not the first time Dorries has got herself into hot water on twitter.
Last year she denied racism after tweeting #wheresmyshotgunman when she saw stand-up comedian Reginald D Hunter speaking to her daughter.
