‘BBC Breakfast’ Host Naga Munchetty Slams Racist And Sexist Trolls As ‘Idiots’

‘BBC Breakfast’ host Naga Munchetty has opened up about the racist and sexist abuse she endures and branded the perpetrators “idiots”.

The journalist, who hosts the Beeb’s early morning show three days a week, slammed the trolls who bombard her with vile comments on social media.

She told The Mirror: “I’m on telly, I’m in your home, so if you want to criticise me, fine.

“I’ve put myself there and can’t complain that someone has an opinion about me.

“But I’m not there to be abused. Nobody is there to be abused.

“You don’t abuse someone while they’re doing their job, and you don’t make racist, sexist or bigoted comments.

“Don’t expect to make them on social media for your followers to see and get away with it. That’s not what happens.”

The 41-year-old, who lives in Hertfordshire with TV director husband James Haggar, admitted she would review an interview if she was criticised for her work.

She continued: “If someone says, ‘She did a bad job of that interview, I’ve come away and not understood anything’, I would go back and re-examine that interview.

“Racist and sexist stuff, I just think, ‘You’re an idiot’.

“I’m not going to go home going, ‘I’m so upset someone’s called me a racist word’, or said I’m a woman, I can’t do a job. They’re idiots. You can’t waste your energy on idiots.”

Meanwhile, Naga insists “none of the presenters care” where they sit on the ‘BBC Breakfast’ sofa, after producers came under fire for putting a less experienced male presenter on the left, which is considered the more senior position.

Earlier this year former ‘Countryfile’ presenter Miriam O’Reilly said it reflected “deep-rooted misogyny” that men had more “gravitas” in an audience’s view.
