Natalie Imbruglia is pregnant with her first child – conceived with the help of IVF and a sperm donor – and is expecting the baby this autumn.
The ‘Torn’ singer, 44 who started her career as Beth Brennan on Neighbours, revealed the news on her Instagram account at the same time as announcing she has signed a new record deal and will be releasing an album with BMG.
“As you can see from the pic.. there is another announcement ... (no I haven’t swallowed a watermelon),” she joked in the picture caption.
“For those of you that know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time and I’m blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor,” she wrote. “I won’t be saying anything more on that publicly.”
The singer, who sold 7 million copies worldwide of her album Left of The Middle in the nineties and another million of its 2001 follow up, White Lillies Island, first suggested she had new music on the way in an Instagram post last November. She’s since been in the studio with Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes and the band’s producer Gus Oberg.
“I have been busy writing for the past year and a half and can’t wait to share these new songs with you all!!!!” she wrote on Wednesday.
Imbruglia, who lives in the UK, married her then longterm boyfriend, Silverchair singer, Daniel Johns, on an Australian beach in 2003, but the couple divorced in 2008, citing the long-distance as an issue. She previously dated Friends actor David Schwimmer in the 1990s.
“I’m so excited about this next adventure,” she signed off her latest post. “A new album and I’m going to be a mum.”
