Having aired nearly every day for 34 years, there’s not many people who don’t know the iconic theme tune to Aussie soap Neighbours – but you’ll never have heard it like this before.
Bosses have put a donk on the classic song in celebration of Sydney Mardi Gras, and if we’re being honest, we’re really not sure how to feel.
While there has been many incarnations of the theme over the years, this version has been created by composer and producer Dariush Etemad, and sees a thumping beat accompany the familiar lyrics.
The remix will be used as the soap’s float takes part in the Mardi Gras parade this weekend, which honours the recent wedding of characters David Tanaka and Aaron Brennan.
Although the track is a one-off, it has left fans of the show will a lot of thoughts.
There were those who were like ‘wt actual f?’...
And then there were those who became weirdly addicted...
But either way, the soap’s participation in the Mardi Gras celebrations is a huge deal
As part of the festivities, Courtney Act has filmed a special cameo role in Neighbours, which will air next year.
The former RuPaul’s Drag Race and Celebrity Big Brother star posted a picture of herself with actors Takaya Honda and Matt Wilson, who play David and Aaron.
“I’M GONNA BE ON NEIGHBOURS!!!” she told fans on Instagram.
“Right, that’s it, I’m done, I’m hanging up my wig. I’ve reached Peak ’Straya. The mythical Fair Go. Advance Australia Fairy!”
It was also recently announced that Loose Women panellist Janet Street Porter, singer Jess Glynne and band Hanson have also filmed cameos on the soap, which airs on Channel 5 here in the UK.
Neighbours’ Mardi Gras celebrations are much more cheery than what is currently unfolding on screen, however, as fans are gearing up to say goodbye to long-standing resident Sonya Rebecchi.
The much-loved character, played by Eve Morey, will die in the arms of her husband Toadie next week, following her stage four ovarian cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
