Nematomorpha Parasite Crawls Out Of Dead Preying Mantis, Freaks Everyone Right Out

First of all let us say: "We do not advocate the killing of preying mantises."

This chap however, already has and what happens next is pretty astounding. And utterly, utterly gross.

Out of the rear end of the recently deceased bug crawls a hideously long... thing.

It's actually a Nematomorpha or horsehair worm and they really are creepy little creatures.

Not only do they colonise the abdomen of their unfortunate victim they also take over its brain.

Once in control it will make the insect commit suicide by jumping into water which it needs to raise its young and bring up the next generation of terrifying zombie-inducing worms.

Urgh.
