The image of a tiny baby swimming underwater and reaching for a dollar bill on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind album is surely one of the most iconic music related shots of all time. And this month, the album has turned 20. (Are you feeling old yet? We are!)
Four-month-old Spencer Elden was thrown into a swimming pool in California to be snapped for the album's cover, which was released on September 24, 1991.
Spencer says he is still always introduced to people as 'the Nirvana baby,' and is frequently asked if certain parts of his anatomy are still the same size!
"I always say, "It's changed, do you want to see it?" is his pithy retort.
Spencer, who is now an artist, never met Nirvana's frontman Kurt Cobain, but is a fan of the band, whose music he says has a 'special place for people'.
Despite the image being recognised the world over, Spencer did not receive any money for the shoot, which his artist father Rick Elden agreed to him doing when he was working on a special effects project in Hollywood. He says he was thrown in the pool and the image captured on a 'friend-helping-a-friend' basis.
Twenty-year-old Spencer says he celebrated the 20 year anniversary of the release of Nevermind and his photo-shoot by hanging out with friends, drinking beer and listening to Nirvana music! Well how else?!
Surely one of the most famous babies ever?
Can you believe that album is 20 years old though?!
