Rumours abound that Microsoft are to reveal the successor to the Xbox 360 at January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. What is it called? The Xbox 720, according to French website Xboxygen, with the rumours repeated in Tuesday’s Metro.
Is it true? Probably not, but fans console fans are desperate for news on forthcoming hardware and CES is as good as anywhere to reveal a console, although E3, the annual gaming expo in LA, is just as likely for any reveal.
According to the site, the new console will boasts a “hex-core CPU with 2GB of DDR3 and a prototype dual-GPU from AMD”.
The site also says an imminent announcement is due from Sony on the PlayStation 4. Make of that what you will.
When reached for comment, a Microsoft spokesperson told the Huffington Post UK that they had “nothing to say on future developments”.
Xbox remains the lead format for UK games. Last week, the 360 version of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold 59% of all units, ahead of PS3’s 40%.
