Nike To Unveil Fuelband 2?

Nike looks like it's ready to unveil the successor to its popular Fuelband fitness tracker.

The sports giant has scheduled an event to discuss "the future of the digital world and physical activity" in New York on October 15.

No details about what will be announced at the NikeFuel Forum event have been released. But it's clear that updates relating to its software and hardware suite of Fuel products - which together track your daily energy output and offer advice for improving your performance - are on the cards.

The original Fuelband has been a hit with reviewers and consumers since it was unveiled in January 2012, and is now offered in black, and semi-transparent grey and white.

Tech blogs have speculated that the new Fuelband will have a heart rate monitor, use Bluetooth 4.0 for better batter life, and have an improved display with faster updates.

Other products which may be announced include an Android version of the Nike Fuelband app, which has been in the works for some time but appears to have been placed on the back-burner - possibly due to Nike's ongoing close relationship with Apple.

Apple announced a new Nike+ Move app designed to make the most of its new M7 fitness sensor inside the iPhone 5S last month, so it's possible the event could in part be an official unveiling for that initiative.

We'll have all the details on the new products when they're announced later this month.
