Nine people have been injured after two trains collided at a railway platform.

No-one is believed to be trapped following the incident, which happened on platform six at Plymouth railway station, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.

Four fire engines have attended the scene and crews are assisting ambulance services with casualty care.

The incident is described as "on-going".

Dominic Parnell, 33, from Cornwall, was on board the moving train when it collided with one in front.

"We were travelling fairly slowly as we were arriving at the platform when we came to a sudden stop with a huge bang," he said.

"Of course, most people were stood up waiting to alight and were thrown forward.

"No one appeared to be injured in my immediate area."

A spokeswoman for South West Ambulance Service said they were called to an incident at the train station at about 3.35pm.

"We are still on scene now, treating a number of walking wounded, and it is believed a couple of people will be going to Derriford hospital", she said.
