Since the news broke, a number of his peers from the music scene have been paying their respects, including Rihanna and Drake, while a number of stars from the sports world have also shared their condolences.

John Legend also tweeted that he had recorded a new music video with the rapper just days before his death.

He wrote: “We filmed in Inglewood, close to where he grew up. He was so gifted, so proud of his home, so invested in his community. Utterly stunned that he’s gone so soon.”

The mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, has also paid his respects on Twitter, writing: “Our hearts are with the loved ones of Nipsey Hussle and everyone touched by this awful tragedy. LA is hurt deeply each time a young life is lost to senseless gun violence.”

He added: “My Crisis Response Team is assisting the families coping with shock and grief.”

The Los Angeles Police Department has said that they are looking for a black male suspect in connection with the fatal shooting.

Nipsey Hussell is survived by his two children.
