Parents' all-time favourite children's television presenter has been revealed – and it isn't who you might think.

Top of our list was Blue Peter's John Noakes, the devil-may-care presenter famous for his catchphrase, 'Down Shep'.

But Noaksey doesn't even make the cut.

So who can it be? The shoo-in has to be Ant and Dec, surely?

But, gadzooks, no! The tiny twosome only make number 2 in the list of top telly talent.

It's time for a roll of the drums to reveal the all-time favourite children's TV presenter for mums and dads is....Noel Edmonds!

Yes, really. The man who made his name by sporting a goatee beard and garish jumpers comes top of a survey of 1,294 parents by toy makers Chad Valley.

Certainly, he was a part of our Saturday mornings as presenter of BBC1's Multi-colour Swap Show (from 1976 to 1982) before he moved on to Noel's House Party (infamous for inflicting Mr Blobby on a gobsmacked nation).

But is the Deal or No Deal presenter really more popular than Ant and Dec, who hosted SMTV Live? After all, they have won gong after gong at various television awards and are cemented in our hearts as the kings of cheeky chappiness.

Or Chris Tarrant, the madcap host of the even more madcap Tiswas?

It would appear so.

But if Noel is a surprise winner, third placed Valerie Singleton is even more jaw-dropping.

Come on parents: Blue Peter's starchy Val above stuntman Noakesy? Really?

Here's the top 10 list of parents' favourite children's TV presenters.
