A nurse stabbed her four-year-old daughter to death before trying to kill herself by drinking bleach, a court heard.
Dawn Makin, 33, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility following the death of daughter Chloe Burke in February.
The mum had been facing the sack after she was found to be leaking confidential patent details to her boyfriend who was working for a 'no win, no fee' legal firm.
While an investigation was being carried out by her bosses, Makin stabbed Chloe to death and then tried to kill herself by cutting her wrists and drinking toxic fluid, believed to be bleach.
She is now permanently in a wheelchair. Preston Crown Court heard that Makin was found unconscious next to Chloe's body at their family home in Fairfield, Bury, Greater Manchester when a worried relative alerted a neighbour.
She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and later regained partial consciousness but for several months was deemed to be too ill to be interviewed by police.
She was charged with murder 10 months later but is now living under 24 hour care in a hospital rehabilitation unit.
Tests revealed Chloe died from multiple stab wounds.
Makin will be sentenced next month following the preparation of two reports from forensic psychiatrists and was remanded on bail.
A full review of the issues surrounding Chloe's death is due to be carried out by child protection experts in Bury.
How terrible!
