A formerly obese beagle has finally reached his goal weight after a year of strict doggy diet and the transformation is a sight to behold.
Last year six-stone (86lbs) Kale Chips was so fat he couldn't walk and had to be rescued by Happy Dog Barkery.
The Chicago animal centre monitored Kale Chips' diet and upped his exercise to include daily walks and swims.
Now the pooch has slimmed down 41lbs and tips the scales at a healthy 44lbs - just in time for summer.
Beth Staley, who owns the small shelter, said: "When he came to us he was morbidly obese.
"He was in a lot of pain and was such a a grump because of it.
"There's been such a change. He's reached his target and he's doing great.
"He's able to enjoy life now.
"Now he loves to run and swim and chase squirrels. All things he couldn't do before."
The eight-year-old hound was overfed by a previous owner with severe memory loss.
And because Kale Chips hasn't yet been adopted, Beth is looking to make Kale Chips a permanent foster at Happy Dog Barkery.
She added: "We've been very fussy about who could adopted him because we wanted him to have the perfect home - he's had such a hard time.
"We love Kale Chips here and are looking to make him a permanent foster."
