Oculus Rift founder and CEO Palmer Luckey is to be honoured at the prestigious T3 Awards for his 'Outstanding Achievement' within the world of technology.
Every year the T3 Awards honours not only the best technology but also the most influential and inspiring people within the industry.
In response to the award Luckey said:
“I really love getting awards, but it’s way cooler to see how people respond to what we make. When we go to a show and people go “Wow this is incredible”, that’s really cool and I feel like this reward is a reflection of that.”
Unsurprisingly, it's this need to inspire others that T3 Magazine's Editor Rob Carney believes is what sets him apart from the competition.
“Palmer is without doubt the the godfather of Virtual Reality and his accomplishment at just 22 are astounding. There is no doubt that in the years to come the Rift will be commonplace in homes around the world."
"But it is not just about the product, Palmer is an inspiration to millions of inventors and entrepreneurs with great ideas, his story is remarkable but not impossible, like so many others it started with a passion and built from there.”

At just 22 years of age Luckey has taken what was nothing more than a circuit board and some optics and almost single-handedly re-launched the concept of virtual reality.
On the 12 August, Luckey launched Oculus on Kickstarter. The response was more than he could have ever imagined pulling in almost $2.5m in backers.
Less than two years later Oculus was then bought by Facebook for a cool $2 billion. Not bad going when you think that Luckey started Oculus at the age of just 16.
Now, Oculus Rift is ready for public consumption. Not just as a gaming headset, but also as an immersive entertainment experience.
