Olivia Colman said she is “totally thrilled” to be made a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The actress – who became an Oscar winner back in February – is being honoured alongside Elvis Costello and former frontman of The Undertones Feargal Sharkey, who are both being made OBEs.
Speaking shortly before the news was officially announced, the actress told the Press Association: “I’m totally thrilled, delighted and humbled to be in the company of these incredible people, most of whom have been nowhere near as visible as I have, but should be - and hopefully now will be.
“It’s such an honour.”
Actor Simon Russell Beale, one of the most acclaimed stars of British theatre, is being knighted for services to drama after a career spanning four decades.
He said: “It is a very great honour and I think my mother, were she alive, would be very proud.”
Olivia won the Best Actress Oscar for her star turn as Queen Anne in The Favourite, one of the most critically-acclaimed films of the year.
The role also won her a Bafta, Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award.
During awards season, the star won herself plenty of new fans with a series of down-to-earth and hilarious speeches.
Struggling to speak through tears at the Academy Awards, she laughed: “It’s genuinely quite stressful. This is hilarious. I got an Oscar!”
Olivia continued: “OK, I have to thank lots of people, if by the way I forget anybody I’m going to find you later and I’m going to give you all a massive snog and I’m really sorry if I might forget now.
“But Yorgos [Lanthimos,] my best director and the best film, and with Emma [Stone] and Rachel [Weisz], the two loveliest women in the world to fall in love with, and to go to work with every day, I mean, you can imagine, it wasn’t a hardship.
“And to be in this category with these extraordinary women, and Glenn Close… you’ve been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be and I think you’re amazing and I love you very much.”
Later this year, she’ll play another monarch, portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the third series of The Crown.
The Honours List also includes nods for authors Joanna Trollope and Lee Child, who are made CBEs, while adventurer and television star Bear Grylls is made an OBE.
