Un-Married at 30, Bridget Jones or the Most Sensible Option?

With the quite frankly mass of modern social media and dating apps, meeting the one is quite frankly impossible, but finding 40million bizarre ones, a one night stand or some naughty sexting is just a swipe away.

So the subject of marriage is one that not only seems to be flooding my Facebook timeline, but is very current for my age group at the moment.

I am nearly approaching 30, which I have no issues with whatsoever - in fact I'm almost embracing regular botox!

However, there has been a flurry of my female friends having minor panic attacks in overcrowded tubes over this milestone and the fact that they are not married - and if we are being honest not even remotely close to being married.

These women are enjoying the single life and Ubers of shame, but are slightly plagued by guilt that they will be left ticking the singles box shortly, whilst everyone else sets up home in Hampshire to have a family, dog and chickens.

This brings me on to ask the question - have we got it into our heads that we need to settle down by the big 30? Are we now trying to work towards an old tradition that is dated for our society?

Now, don't get me wrong I am very much an old fashioned romantic and the idea of settling down is wonderful, however I am also aware of the modern day world that we live in.

I'm not worried about being single and am not ready to get married - I want to spend the next 10 years working, writing, travelling and meeting fabulous people.

I would just like to get to the point where I can go onto Facebook without feeling slightly guilty for not wanting to settle down, and that it's ok to break the judgment mold of approaching 30.

My friends and I had this rather drunken debate recently and we decided we are all going to do it our way - meet someone when the universe wishes, with someone that you want to wake up every Christmas morning with and honestly couldn't imagine yourself without - not when society dictates. That will be truly fabulous.
