  • Great Britain’s Jack Burnell was disqualified from the men’s 10km open water swim. It was given after he was handed two yellow cards - one for a tussle with a fellow swimmer and another for an as-yet unknown reason.

Strop Of The Day

An Irish boxer was so incensed to be “cheated” by his Russian rival in the Olympics he went on a rampage in and out the ring - even going as far as to call out Vladimir Putin on Twitter.

Michael Conlan was defeated on points by Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin in his bantamweight quarter-final, a decision that many experts reckoned was harsh.

Conlan, a bronze medallist in London 2012, first gave judges the middle finger as he made plain his disgust at the outcome.

Next, he was interviewed by Irish television station RTE where he accused the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) of being “cheats”. “fucking cheats” and “cheating bastards”.

Heartwarming Moment Of The Day

Abbey D’Agostino of Team USA and New Zealand’s Nikki Hamblin both fell during the opening round of the women’s 5,000-metre race on Tuesday.

But D’Agostino told her rival: “Get up, get up! We have to finish! This is the Olympic Games. We have to finish this.”

D’Agostino had an injured knee. But when Hamblin turned back to the struggling American, D’Agostino told her to keep going.

Both continued to the finishing line with the US athlete coming last and Hamblin second-to-last, with the pair embracing at the finish line.

Despite the incident both actually qualified for the final because they were tripped.

Power Couple Of The Games

Laura Trott and Jason Kenny are basically the King and Queen of cycling right now.

But did you know that if the pair was a country, they would be 13th in the Olympic medals table ahead of Spain having won five golds between them in Rio?

Alas, it seems people still occasionally forget we’re living in the 21st century now, with BBC commentator Chris Boardman suggested he might be asking Trott “what’s for tea?” as the couple hugged after their events.

Boardman, a GB cycling great who won gold in the 1992 Games, said: “She’s doing the emotion for both of them really, isn’t he? He’s look at her going: what’s for tea?”

Unsurprisingly, many people were highly unimpressed. Read the full story here.

There have been some exceptionally painful-looking diving flops in the games so far, including Nadezhda Bazhina’s attempt.

But now men’s 3m springboard London 2012 gold medallist Ilya Zakharov has joined the rank of the nul points winners with this belly flop:
