PRESS ASSOCIATION -- Chart-topping act One Direction are to play a number of arena shows as part of their first headline tour.

The group, who scored a number one earlier this month with What Makes You Beautiful, will begin their 21-date tour later this year.

The five-piece - who rose to fame on contestants on The X Factor last year - are due to release their debut album in November.

Their live tour takes in theatre and arena shows, including London's HMV Apollo, Manchester's O2 Apollo, Liverpool's Echo Arena and Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.

The tour kicks off on December 21 at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, just days after the latest series of X Factor reaches its climax.

They have previously played live as they took part in the X Factor Live Tour earlier this year.

Promoters say their live show will see them play their own songs "alongside some of their favourite covers and a few surprises".

Tickets go on sale on Saturday at 10am with further details from onedirectionmusic.com.
