Earlier this week, Zayn revealed that, having parted ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco record label, he had signed a new solo deal with RCA Records, admitting he was looking forward to releasing some “real music”.

However, before the dust had even settled, 1D were not letting anyone forget about their already-tight grasp on the pop charts, by pulling a Beyoncé on us all by surprise-releasing their new track, ‘Drag Me Down’.

The single has so far been well-received by critics, and topped the iTunes chart in a staggering 82 different countries since its surprise release on Friday, with even Zayn now chipping in to praise the track.

Writing on his official Twitter page late on Saturday night, Zayn described ‘Drag Me Down’ as “sick”, adding: “Proud of my boys… big love.”

While music mogul Simon Cowell was quick to congratulate Zayn on his new record deal earlier this week, one of Zayn’s former pals was less forthcoming with his feelings, with his former collaborator Naughty Boy - who he famously fell out with last month - keeping schtum about the whole thing.

Although the music producer was initially thought to be mates with Zayn, last month things between them appeared to have turned sour, after the former 1D singer branded him a “fat joke” on Twitter, criticising his abilities as a producer and publicly asking him to “stop pretending we’re friends”.
