One Of UK’S Rarest Number Plates To Be Sold At Auction

One of the UK’s “rarest and most sought after” number plates is to be sold at auction.

The DVLA plate TAX1 has been in private ownership for over 40 years but now expects to reach up to £100,000 when it goes on sale on February 22.

Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert said he anticipates national interest when the number plate goes under the hammer at Humbert and Ellis Auctioneers in Whittlebury, Northamptonshire.

A guide price of £80,000- £100,000 has been placed on the item which was last available in the 1970s.

Mr Humbert said: “This number plate is available now and only now and could go into private ownership for another 40 years so this represents a real one-off investment opportunity for this rarest of UK number plates.

“Number plates with the lowest number of ‘1’ always attract a premium.

“The letters that spell the word ‘TAX’, whilst ordinarily instilling fear in the hearts of most, will be highly sought after by tax experts, accountants or indeed taxi company owners like Uber or Addison Lee given the TAXI that the plate spells in totality.”
