Dakota Johnson and her actress mother, Melanie Griffith, had an awkward encounter on the Oscars red carpet, during a chat about ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
MORE OSCARS:
Dakota took her mum as her date to this year’s Academy Awards, where she also introduced Maroon 5 to the stage, but couldn’t shake off questions about ‘Fifty Shades’ and whether or not her parents had seen it.
During a solo chat with Ryan Seacrest earlier in the evening, the actress - who, in character as Anastasia Steele, is seen being tied up, flogged and spanked over the course of the two-hour film - bluntly said her mum hadn’t seen it, but things took an even more toe-curling turn when they had a joint interview with another reporter.

When quizzed about whether she’d seen ‘Fifty Shades’, Melanie explained: “I don’t think I can. I think… it would be strange.”
Not happy with her mum’s answer, Dakota quickly jumped in, insisting: “No I don’t think so - I think it’s fine. I think that one day you can see it. I think so.”
After the news reporter praised the young actress’s performance in ‘Fifty Shades’, Melanie added: “She’s a great actress so I don’t need to see it to know that.”
Clearly tiring of the conversation, Dakota interjected: “Alright! You don’t have to see it!”
Oooooh, get her! You might want to watch your attitude when you’re speaking to your mum like that, Dakota, or she’ll send you to your room without any supper - and no TV for a week!
Melanie isn’t the only family member of a ‘Fifty Shades’ star who is avoiding the film, after leading man Jamie Dornanpreviously revealed that his wife wouldn’t be watching it.
