She may not have won the Oscar in the end, but Lady Gaga still wound up being one of the ceremony’s biggest talking points thanks to her stunning performance last night (28 February).

A year after wowing everyone with her tribute to ‘The Sound Of Music’, Gaga returned to the Academy Awards stage on Sunday, but this time with a much more emotional appearance.
She performed her somber Oscar-nominated track ‘Till It Happens To You’, accompanied by herself on the piano, taken from the documentary ‘The Hunting Ground’, which deals with the taboo subject of sexual abuse, specifically on university campuses.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Gaga sang the Diane Warren co-write, particularly when she was joined on stage by a group of survivors of sexual abuse towards the end of the song.

Gaga had previously said she’d be dedicating the song to Kesha, after the singer/songwriter was told earlier this month that she would not be allowed to leave her record contract with music producer, Dr Luke, despite having accused him of sexual and emotional abuse, which he has vehemently denied.
Unfortunately for Gaga, the heartfelt performance didn’t translate to Oscars victory, with Sam Smith taking home the prize for Best Original Song, for his musical offering ‘The Writing’s On The Wall’, taken from the ‘James Bond’ film, ‘Spectre’.
During his acceptance speech, he alluded to the fact that no gay man had won an Academy Award before… which previous winner Dustin Lance Black was not exactly impressed with.
