Owen Hargreaves has been released by Premier League champions Manchester City after making just four appearances for the club.
Hargreaves, 31, moved to the Etihad Stadium last year after he was not offered a new contract at Manchester United, having played less than 10 minutes for the club over two seasons.
His fitness woes continued across the City, as he made just one Premier League appearance.
The ex-Bayern Munich midfielder scored his only goal on his debut against Birmingham City in the League Cup in September.
Now the 42-times capped England international must decide whether to pursue his footballing career or surrender to his troublesome knee injuries.
