Parents have been put on alert over the dangers of Christmas dolls containing chemicals that can cause cancer, deformity in unborn babies and infertility in men.
Trading standards officials in Medway, Kent, discovered the potentially dangerous 'Fruit-head' dolls being sold on a market stall. They were banned across Europe two years ago because they contain chemical phthalates, which if consumed are highly dangerous.
The bright toys come with various fruit-shaped coloured heads including apple, blackberry, strawberry and pineapple.
Councillor Peter Hicks, head of community safety, told Parentdish: "Children are particularly vulnerable at Christmas. These dolls were selling cheap and would appear to be an attractive present.
"I urge anyone who has bought one to keep it away from children and tell our trading standards service immediately.
"At the same time, any Medway business that may still have them should return them to their suppliers, citing the Europe-wide recall."
Anyone selling the dolls – even if they've bought them in good faith - face up to six months in prison and a £5,000 fine for breaching toy safety rules.
