A mum has spoken of her shock after a thief stole her fiance's car with her seven-week-old son in the back seat.

New mum Louise Waine has spoken of her feelings of desperation - and relief at being reunited with her baby.

Leo's dad, Thomas Moulsdale, 24, was standing close to the car in Moor Road, Wigan chatting to a friend when the thief sneaked into the driver's seat. Mr Moulsdale attempted to open the passenger door and yelled that his son was inside, but the thief carried on driving.

After an anonymous call was made to the police, the Subaru Impreza was found 15 minutes later abandoned close to a pub. Baby Leo was safe and well inside it.

His relieved mum told Sky News of her joy at being reunited with her son - and her horror that anyone would take a vehicle with a child in it.

"We got a phone call ... saying they'd found him ... we shot down and I grabbed him out of the seat. I just felt ill. I can't believe someone would do that," she said.

The police have asked any witnesses to the theft to contact them.

"We can only imagine the distress that the parents of this young baby must have gone through after their son was taken from them in this manner," Detective Constable Brendan Greally, from Wigan CID said.
