Production on the seventh instalment of the 'Fast & Furious' film series has been halted following the death of star Paul Walker - but movie bosses have said the project WILL still go ahead.

Paul - who plays Brian O’Connor in the action series - died after being in a car crash in California on Saturday.

Filming was due to resume on 'Fast & Furious 7' in Atlanta on Monday following a break for Thanksgiving, but will now be pushed back as it is decided how Paul's death will be dealt with in the film.

According to The Wrap, director James Wan held a conference call with Universal executives to discuss a potential rewrite in light of the tragic events.

While a large part of the film has already been shot, plans for its future will not be decided until the cast and crew have had time to grieve for Paul.

Co-star Vin Diesel led the tributes on Sunday, tweeting: "Brother, I will miss you very much. Heaven has gained a new angel. Rest in peace xxx."

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have since confirmed that speed was a factor in the crash, which saw Paul's Porsche smash into a light pole and tree, Metro News reports.
