The other morning I was posting my daily updates to my facebook members' groups. I am a women's health and wellness coach and I use facebook groups as a community discussion zone.
I had a quick scroll through my newsfeed while I was there.
Being in the 'wellness' business I follow a lot of other health, nutrition & fitness professionals.
It's good for me to see what others are saying and doing and often I find gems of wisdom I can share with my coaching clients and email subscribers.
This particular morning one thing caught my eye which really got my goat.
It was a photo posted by a fitness professional (personal trainer) of their brekkie.
Admittedly, it was harmless enough. And to the right audience, probably completely inspirational.
But to me said "this is where the fitness industry is flawed"...
To you it might have said "that's why I don't do gyms"...
See it was a picture of steak, potatoes and raw green veg.
I sh*t you not. For breakfast!
Now as I say, from a nutrition perspective this is a great start to the day.
For a 21 year old lad who only needs to look after himself... perfect - crack on!
But for women like you and me, who have to walk the dog, get the kids ready, make packed lunches for everyone, drop kids off at school and be at our desk by 9am......
Steak is NOT HAPPENING!
And this is another reason that women like us struggle to make sustainable changes and be consistent.
We pick a personal trainer, or a gym...
We get their nutrition advice....
Full of enthusiasm we go for it....
Then we hit 'overwhelm'...
It's all too much...
No time for steak this morning...
So we nip down and buy a box of cheerios...
Then we beat ourselves up about failure...
And console ourselves with a kitkat chunky peanut butter....
We'll start again tomorrow, eh?
Only tomorrow we are on a course at a hotel so we'll be eating biscuits....
We'll call the PT and tell him we'll pick up again next month.
Back to square 1.
So here are my top 3 nutritional brekkies that the whole family will LOVE and that you WILL be able to fit in to your routine.
2 Ingredient Banana Pancakes
These badgers are the family favourite in my house. Simply blitz 2 eggs and a large banana in to a smooth 'batter'. Then fry in a shallow pan in a little coconut oil on a medium heat, for a couple of minutes on each side. Delicious as they are or even better topped with Greek yogurt, fruit, nuts and/or seeds.
Overnight Oats
Add 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt & 1/2 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice) to a bowl and stir. Leave overnight and nosh down in the morning! Can be eaten as is but I love them topped with another dollup of yogurt, fresh fruits and a drizzle of honey.
Scrambled Eggs
No recipe required! Simply whisk 2 eggs up with a fork in a mug, season with salt & pepper and whack in to a hot pan with a little coconut oil to prevent sticking. Keep moving the eggs around briskly with the fork. Approx 45 seconds later - voila! Scrambled eggs. We serve ours with a side of sliced avocado and sliced banana. Even my 14 year old Son Jack can manage this one!
