Peter Rabbit, the much-loved character from Beatrix Potter’s novels, will soon be made into a commemorative 50p coin.
The cheeky rabbit was first introduced onto UK coins in 2016 to celebrate Potter’s 150th anniversary. Following a hugely popular run, Peter Rabbit has since appeared on UK coins in 2017 and 2018.
Unlike previous incarnations, the 2019 coin is commemorative and so will not be entering circulation – the only way to get your hands on one is to buy it from Royal Mint.
Beatrix Potter’s original illustration has been carefully engraved by The Royal Mint’s coin designer, Emma Noble, to capture the mischievous rabbit wearing his signature blue jacket and holding his red handkerchief. The new design will feature on Brilliant Uncirculated, Silver Proof and Gold Proof 50p commemorative coins.
