The presenter will see the New Year in on crutches after he injured his left leg whilst playing with the drone he received under the Christmas tree.

Oh Phillip.

The 53-year-old tweeted a snap showing off his bandaged leg and crutches after he twisted his knee as he tried out his new hi-tech toy.

The star had been flying the drone when it crashed into a pond, and ended up coming a cropper as he tried to retrieve it.

The TV star tweeted: "When you fly your xmas drone pressie into a pond and twist your knee trying to get it out!"

The drone didn’t fair much better either, which can be seen drying out in a bowl of rice in the accompanying snap.

As well as his drone, Phil had an early Christmas present when his brother Tim was discharged from hospital in time for the festive period.

The presenter was forced to take two weeks off work when his younger brother was suddenly taken ill earlier this month.

He took to Instagram to share his delight with fans, informing them that Tim was doing well after his health scare.
