Piers Morgan was attacked on Thursday for asking Americans to stop shooting each other. The former newspaper editor, who became a fierce opponent of America's lax gun laws during his time at CNN, tweeted a plea for an end to the "slaughter" following the shooting at Umpqua College In Oregon.
A standard riposte to overtures of gun control is for Second Amendments supporters to claim that "today is not the day to talk about this."
Morgan was then accused by a Texas blog site of "exploiting the tragic shooting at an Oregon community college before authorities knew how many victims existed."
