Piers Morgan has responded to rumours that he’s set to return to the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel.
On Friday, The Sun reported that Piers had been approached to replace David Walliams in a bid to refresh the ITV talent show.
According to the tabloid, a source claims the Good Morning Britain presenter would do the show if the “terms are right” after being approached by two senior ITV executives.
Piers later retweeted a photo of The Sun’s story, and did nothing to dispute the story with the accompanying caption...
Piers was a little more forthcoming about the rumours during an interview with his former co-judge Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Friday’s edition of the Heart Breakfast Show.
“It’s pretty obvious that the golden hour of Britain’s Got Talent was when I was a judge with you and Simon [Cowell], when we got 20 million viewers for one final,” Piers joked. “Obviously it’s not quite as strong as this year.”
He then added: “There’s something driven by the media that it needs a bit of spice back in the pot, of course it doesn’t get spicier than me.
“Let’s see what happens! I’ve had conversations,” he admitted.
Piers was one of the show’s original judges alongside Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell when it launched in 2007.
David is reportedly contracted to do one more series of BGT, while Piers’ contract with GMB also expires next year.
A Britain’s Got Talent spokesperson told HuffPost UK: “Unsurprisingly, during these times, it won’t come as a shock to the public to hear that no such discussions have taken place regarding BGT 2022.”
This year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent was won by comedy singer Jon Courtenay.
Of the 10 acts in the final, Jon received a total of 35.7% of the total vote, following the performance of his original song in the final.
For safety reasons, the performances in this year’s BGT final were pre-recorded ahead of time, although the results of the public vote were announced live.
Comedy singer Jon’s win was a notable one, as it marked the first time a Golden Buzzer act – picked by one of the judges to automatically win a spot in the semi-finals after their audition – has gone on to win the competition.
This year saw Simon Cowell sitting out the second half of the competition due to an injury, with former BGT winner Ashley Banjo sitting in for him.
