Police responding to an emergency call in Seattle found a pot-bellied pig wearing jogging bottoms trapped in a car.
The pig was described as “lethargic” and his companion, a small dog, was “panting”, Breitbart reports.
Outside temperatures had reached around 86 degrees when officers arrived, KOMO news revealed.
The station adds police found empty food and water bowls in the unlocked vehicle – as well as faeces. The keys were also in the ignition.
Officers gave the animals fresh water and located their owner who was in a nearby bar.
Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt told KIRO radio: “There was no food or water or anything for the animals, and there was quite a bit of faeces in the vehicle.”
“After warning the owner about leaving animals without water in a hot car, the man grew agitated and asked officers to show him the poop in the vehicle,” Seattlepi.com reported.
After officers had pointed out the faeces, the man agreed to take better care of his animals and the matter was turned over to Renton Animal Control, which is now investigating the Saturday night incident.
