Police Find No Evidence Of Girl Being Abducted At Bonfire Night Event

There is no evidence of a child being abducted from a firework display on Sunday night, police have said.

Officers received a report “in good faith” of the possible abduction of a young girl, made by a member of security staff at the event at Heaton Park, Manchester.

Police searched cars leaving the display, one of the city’s biggest Bonfire Night events, following the report at around 9.15pm.

Reports of the incident went viral on social media, as long traffic jams developed while police checked cars leaving the huge municipal park on the outskirts of the city.

Superintendent Mark Kenny, of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), said reports of child abduction are taken seriously and officers acted quickly.

However, he said police have not received a report of a missing child from any family that matched the information reported to them and there was no evidence that a child abduction took place.
