Two bodies have been found by police searching a river after a 13-year-old girl was found alone on a boat.
Norfolk Police said the bodies of a man and a woman were recovered between Salhouse Broad and Wroxham Broad in the Norfolk Broads this afternoon after a search was carried out of the location by divers.
The alarm was raised after a member of the public called police at around 5pm yesterday concerned that a holiday hire boat had not been returned as arranged at the end of the week.
Police said the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained but officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Police had been searching for the girl's parents since finding her alone on the vessel after it was located tied to a tree close to Salhouse Little Broad yesterday.
The teenager, who has been informed of the developments, spent the night in protective police custody.
She was being comforted by relatives tonight.
A police spokesman said the body of a woman was discovered shortly after 2pm followed by the body of a male shortly after 4.35pm.
The coroner has been informed and post mortem examinations are due to be carried out tomorrow to establish the causes of death and formal identification of the bodies will take place in due course.
Detective Superintendent Pete Hornby, of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and working to establish the sequence of events which led to this evening's tragic outcome.
"The motives surrounding the incident remain unclear, but at this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths."
The boat has been recovered and returned to a boat yard at Horning where it continues to be examined and the river has been re-opened to boating traffic, police added.
