Commons People Politics Podcast: Budget 2016 Special

 

George Osborne unveiled his eight Budget this week, billing it as “putting the next generation first”.

But the main beneficiaries seemed to be small business owners, those earning more than £45,000 a year and corporations.

Young people were given longer school days, told to study maths until 18 and targeted for their obesity with the fizzy drinks tax.

Osborne could perhaps do with some maths lessons seeing as he missed his own economic targets, and seems to be funding his giveaways through cuts to disability benefits.

While the sugar tax grabbed the headlines, a few other measures were snuck out by Osborne - including the wheels coming off his austerity plans.
