Primary school bosses are planning to tarmac over a grass playground – to stop children getting MUDDY.

Gossops Green Primary School in Crawley, West Sussex, claims kids get too dirty when playing in the area.

They have sent a petition to their local council for funding to have tarmac and artificial grass put down.

The play area is used by pupils aged just four to six and is closed off when it rains for safety concerns.

But an angry mum said: "It's barmy. Like most mums, I don't like it when my son comes home from school and his uniform is filthy, but he's a child. That's what children do.

"And that's why washing machines were invented. I'd much rather deal with muddy trousers than a grazed knee because he's fallen over on tarmac."

West Sussex County Council is consulting with Crawley Borough Council and the school about the plans which would mean the pupils have no grass to play on at all.
