It didn't take long for Prince George to land a Vanity Fair cover. The royal baby can be seenalongside his mother and father the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the front of the August issue.

The magazine chose the teeny tiny royal for the cover spot to mark his first birthday and Vanity Fair contributor Katie Nicholl spoke to palace insiders about the prince's first 12 months.

According to Nicholl's report, mum Kate was relieved when George was on his very best behaviour during his first public appearances because he was a bit of a crier at home.

"For the first few months the prince cried loudly and frequently," the article states. "He was not sleeping through the night.

"Nanny Jessie Webb tried hard to get him into a routine, but the baby prince, who was still breastfeeding, was permanently hungry."

Apparently it was only when he started eating solids he was able to get a full night's sleep. Probably to the relief of his mum and dad.

Despite the media glare, William and Kate have allegedly expressed a desire for George to have a normal upbringing where at all possible.

"They take George to playdates at the homes of friends, among them Kate's old Marlborough friend Alice St John Webster, who has a baby several months older than George."

And this biggest news yet? The royal couple's friends have suggested they're planning to try for another baby this summer.

The Vanity Fair cover isn't the only official mark of the prince's first b'day. Oh no, we'll soon have a coin to celebrate the occasion too. Find out more here...
